Jordan Wick
Hi, I’m Jordan. I’m an engineer and an optimist. I’ve spent time in big tech, startups, and government, and these days I’m mostly thinking about:
- metascience and AI for science
- state capacity and institutional legibility - especially permitting, procurement, and government data accessibility
- tech commercialization
- hackathons and prize competitions as engines of innovation
Other interests include:
- open-endedness and complexity science (evolution, self-organizing systems)
- making social dynamics legible - the emotional dynamics that make groups creative or draining, improv as a way to generate ideas, and how coordinated confidence turns ambitious ideas into self-fulfilling prophecies
- translating technical research for wider audiences
- CPG manufacturing and distribution
Some things that have shaped how I think:
- Why Greatness Cannot Be Planned
- Antifragile
- Recoding America
- The Computational Beauty of Nature
- The Pathless Path
- 6 Days to Air
- “Quit Your Job”
- “Hard Startups”
